Special Event
Fundraising on 18th & 19th August 2008 to get the documentary 'Life Without Benedetta' to New York for 11th September 2008A project supporting those suffering the effects of terrorism…we invite you to attend a special evening. Life Without Benedetta is a non-political documentary which tells the true story of Benedetta Ciaccia, a young woman from Rome who died on the 7th July 2005 London bombings. It is told from the perspective of her former long term partner and best friend, who powerfully shares the experience of losing a loved one rather than being desensitised to the knowledge that people died.
So far the documentary has proved extremely successful with the 7/7 Community (loved ones of victims and those who survived). After tears were shed, members of the community have provided feedback that this story touched their hearts and it needs to be shown around the world. The documentary has attracted National and International media including Sky News, ITN, Evening Standard, Rai and The Independent to mention a few.
Life With Loss is to become a new charity which will support 'everyday people' in rebuilding their lives after they were severely effected by acts of terrorism so that they can regenerate their love for living. Now we are going to New York to screen Life Without Benedetta as a gift to those still grieving from the events of 9/11 and also to the general public in America to raise awareness of the effects of terrorism on 'everyday people'. This will be screened to audiences on the 11th September 2008. To achieve this we are inviting the general public in London to a fundraising event and include being amongst the first to watch Life Without Benedetta, which has so far been restricted to exclusive viewings only, despite frequent demands for it to be screened.

Event Complete
Approximately 70-100 guests attended the fundraising evenings over the two day period including some members of the 7/7 Community & Media. After each screening, there was a Q&A session with Raj Babbra regarding the making of the film, Benedetta's life, events surrounding 7/7 and the intentions of the project. Some answers were also provided by Paul Mitchell (a survivor of the Kings Cross bombing) who attended one evening and Rabia Bouchiba (Director of Life Without Benedetta).
This was an early project that was created with very little preparation. Although money was raised, it was not enough to cause the project to happen in NY for the anniversary. Money raised at the event was used towards the overspent production costs of the film (the film budget was raised by donations from everyday people who wanted to assist this project).
There was no failure in not getting to NY. Many contacts were made in the 9/11 Community who were interested in screening the documentary in the future and interested in what we were causing over here. It was a very difficult event and the scale of what we were working on as individuals was massive.
Life With Loss initially was to become a charity rather than now being the organisation that it is developing into. This event helped focus what Life With Loss should be.
